apex harmony lodge

For my 3rd Industry Studio Project, we were tasked to rethink APEX Harmony Lodge, a dementia care home in Pasir Ris. During the 5 month module, I not only honed my research skills but also my digital visualization skills. I approached the design brief primarily by addressing existing issues on site such as spatial constraints, stigma against dementia, and embracing community living. This is done in a few ways, such as:

1. Staggered levels that create pockets of multi-purpose spaces used for socializing, resting, and nature appreciation via sight and sound. 

2. Introducing members of the public to visit APEX using culturally-specific programmes such as kopi talk and traditional games, hence breaking barriers between people with dementia and the general public.

3. Utilizing design concepts used in vernacular architecture to aid my spatial layout. I was inspired by Singapore kampungs in terms of how their arrangements enabled close-knit community living; I wanted to recreate the "Kampung Spirit"
